Abstract

The implementation of a learning approach oriented towards meaningful learning is a crucial need to improve the quality of education in Senior High Schools (SMA). The deep learning approach emphasizes active student involvement, in-depth conceptual understanding, and the development of higher-order thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the deep learning approach in learning in senior high schools and its impact on improving students' critical thinking skills and conceptual understanding. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method in two senior high schools, namely a private school in East Jakarta with students in grades 10, 11, and 12. Data collection was carried out through learning observations, critical thinking tests, conceptual understanding tests, and student response questionnaires. The results showed that the implementation of the deep learning approach was able to improve students' critical thinking skills, demonstrated through the ability to analyze, evaluate, and reflect on learning materials. In addition, students' conceptual understanding improved because students were able to link concepts to real contexts and previous learning experiences. Thus, the deep learning approach has proven effective in creating meaningful learning and contributing to improving the quality of learning in senior high schools.
